French with a twist of Japanese: Miam Miam at Bugis Junction

I have hear so much about this place that I was willing to queue up for it. I went on a Friday night after work and arrive at about 6:45pm? I queued up for at least 30 minutes before it was my turn. I only had a single dining companion that night which of course made the wait shorter.

I thought you ought to know that if your 'attendance' isn't full, they won't let you go in first. So... someone can come and queue first but you're not allowed to enter until everyone has arrived.

Just my two cents, while I was queueing I realize there were quite a fair bit of empty tables. It left me puzzled because... no one's going in but there's empty tables. (?)

Just my own conclusion, their service is very slow. Oh, and that should have been a fore warning to me.

I don't know about you but I am very, very particular about services rendered. (of course I am reasonable, I don't expect 5 stars service when I'm at a hawker) But of course at Miam Miam, being a decent restaurant in a mall with decent reputation, I ought to think that I deserve better then what I experienced.

There was at least 15-20 people in the queue at any one point of time. The queue did not die down until it was close to 9pm. Seriously? You know the food isn't that fantastic...

The menu was decent from a range of pastas to rice to choose from. I had a hard time deciding for curry rice or lobster pasta. In the end I went for Lobster. My companion went for their signature that... kinda reminded us about Hoshino's signature pasta.

If you've been to Hoshino, Miam Miam is almost the same as them. Including the long waits. But if you really want me to compare, I would choose Hoshino over Miam Miam. But if you haven't tried Miam Miam, you should. My taste could differ from you, and plus the food isn't that terrible that you shouldn't come. So if you don't mind the wait, then come with a prepared mindset.

I intentionally timed how long it will take for them to serve us our main dishes from the moment our orders were taken. To my pleasant surprise, it was about 15/20 minutes for both pasta to be served. Which I thought, it's pretty fast.

Miam Miam Spaghetti @ $15.90

Well.. Looks almost even like Hoshino's. Okay, this is pretty alright but companion preferred the one at Hoshino. I took a mouthful too and thought that.. it was okay, nothing wow.

Lobster Bisque Spaghetti @ $18.80

Too much tomato that I felt like I couldn't taste the lobster. Other then the tiny prawn in the middle, the entire plate was just filled with tomato and sauce. Not worth the price I paid. Maybe you can skip this.

Oh, this bottle of water? $1. At first when they said they'd charge us $0.50 for plain water we thought it would be just a glass of it but okay.. this $1 is fine with us.

We finished our pasta and was ready to inform them that we want our dessert. We knew that their soufflés are freshly baked so it will take time, and we thought we should inform them that they can start preparing so after 15/20 minutes we will be able to eat it.

So this is what happened...

Me: *waves*

Waitress: Yes?

Me: Urm, we just finished our dinner, don't mind can prepare our soufflé now?

Waitress: You don't need to call us want la, we will make it, you need to wait. Just wait and it will eventually come. Soufflé need to wait one. Don't need to call us.

Me: ?

Look.

My only purpose was to inform you, "I'm done with my mains, please prepare my soufflé."

I WASN'T EVEN RUSHING YOU.

The best part was.. she didn't even let me explain myself and just walked off after saying "you need to wait, no need to call us".

That, totally pissed the shit out of me.

The best thing to happen next? The pastry chef (I assume) came out from the kitchen and told us that our soufflé had burst and needed more time to remake one.

Thank you for informing us very politely, but sorry your waitress just pissed me off. But what was I to do? Scream? It won't bring me my soufflé. We had no choice but to wait for another 15 minutes.

Maybe.. this is why the queue is very long.

Valrhona Chocolate Souffle @ $13.80

Sorry but no. This isn't worth my time waiting for it and definitely that rude service I got.

Going back? Maybe to West Gate's not bugis. The service is just, bad.

  2. Hi Jean, thanks for your comment! I will honestly reconsider then. Don't want to go and get myself angry and still have to pay for bad services.
