Ramen: Menya Musashi @ Vivo City

As a Ramen lover I got my quick fix of a bowl of goodness the other day at Menya Musashi. Prior to dining there, I've never hear of this place so this is just pure 'walk-in' to try kind of thing.

The other day I went Aijsen with my girls and I had a terrible Tom Yum ramen so... I was half wanting to compensate myself for the calories I wasted on it so here I am with the same Tom Yum hoping it would be better.

Tomyam Shabu $14.90

And yes, it was really good and I enjoyed it! But the portion was a little too much for me so I couldn't finish everything.

White Cha Shu Ramen $11.90

The pork base one was good too just a little too salty for my liking. If I hadn't chose the Tom Yum I would probably go for the Chili based one. Hehehe, a little spice in everything makes it nicer! :)

Cafe: The Bake House by Carpenter and Cook @ Alexandra

I've been to Carpenter & Cook at Lorong Kilat and I've loved their pastries and tarts. So I decided to give their other cafe, Bakehouse a go!

Not tough to spot it as it's right beside IKEA Alexandra. If you're driving, just park at IKEA and walk out and you'd find it on the left upon exiting the main entrance of IKEA.

#1 minus point. I guess it was free seating... so no one bothered to entertain us - at all. We were completely on our own and we had to source for seats ourselves and it's like as if the service staff completely ignored our presence like we're invisible or something. I was pretty annoyed by that, but what to do, I chose to patronise them.

I liked the decoration and feel of the place though it's very small. Not suitable for crowds more than 4.

Self help with cutlery and water.

Pretty limited menu, so unlikely there's anything I would come back again for.

Hello my new sandals from Taiwan that is only TWD390! Hehehe, super love it!

Rose with French Vanilla $5 by Dilmah - which I felt very very very cheated. I could just top up a little and get the entire box of teabags myself.

Crab Meat Fettuccine $16 - which has pathetic portion but it was pretty decent. This portion was just right for me, but definitely insufficient if you come famished.

Sausage Pizza $14 - Not bad but again, the portion is miserable.

Chocolate Salted Caramel Tart $6.50 - something that should not have gone wrong because this is probably from their parent cafe. Which of course, this was good.

So the verdict? Nope, not going back and neither would I really recommend someone to travel all the way there just to eat this. Anyway, my girlfriend who went couple of months back told me that the portion used to be more... so maybe they adjusted their portions to be more profitable? I don't know, you decide.

Dessert: Korean O'ma Spoon

I've been to a couple of Korean Patbingsu places to eat bingsu and.... well, skip this place. That's all I have to say. Paying $18.90 for a mountain of sourish mangoes... Nah. Tasted pretty bland, nothing else within the bingsu except plain ice and..... I don't know but just nah. Not flavourful enough.

Anyway, O'ma Spoon is located at 313 Somerset whereas Nunsaram is just at Orchard Central next door...... JUST GO THERE TO EAT. By far, Nunsaram is my favourite - none has won its place in my heart at the moment.

Really.

Cafe: Batter Fluffy Flaps @ Katong

I've walked past this cafe countless times for the past few years and never had the opportunity to try it. So finally, one day after my friend's singing 'convocation', we managed to pop by for some light dinner.

It was a Friday night and it was pretty.. quiet for a cafe. Well, nonetheless since it was the only few places still open, we pop-ed in to give it a try.

Since I was still quite full from my dinner earlier on, I opted to have desserts.

It looked pretty cute so I was quite excited about it. They seem to specialize in their pancakes so... it should be good - or so I thought.

So $16.90 for you to choose anything you want and no restrictions on how many types of toppings and fresh fruits you want to add.

And so I choose the blueberry pancake, with pistachio ice cream. Added with strawberries, peach, blueberries and grapes. Got some Kokocrunch to go with chocolate sauce.

This is their waffles with strawberries, grapes, blueberries topped with chocolate sauce and honey stars and I forgot what did she ordered for her ice cream.

The verdict after eating it.....

Well, once is enough. For the price we paid and the quality we had, I sort of didn't feel really wow? I mean if you're focusing on selling pancakes... I guess you could do better than this.

Then again, the shop has been around for a couple of years so... maybe there's other gems that I didn't manage to uncover?

Well you decide yourself if this is worth a visit. :)

Bergs @ Katong

For a good Friday wind down over some burgers and beer, you could probably pop by at Katong. If you're round the corner and thinking of having some burgers/western then this is the place for you.

Extensive selection of 'meat' for you to choose from beef, chicken, lamb and fish. Don't like any? Then go vegetarian.

Berg size is too huge for me but small is just right. The berg size reminds me of Carl's Junior burger. Anyway, it's not too pricey but it really does resemble Carl's Junior quite a bit.

Presenting to you Miss Piggy, which is pretty good. Feels like just having a fast food takeaway kinda feel but more expensive that's all. But the sauce is pretty awesome, just that they could have been more generous with it.

In any case, if you're nearby and feeling some burgers, drop by Bergs - shouldn't leave you disappointed. Else, they have a couple of other outlets that you can visit if you're near any of them.

Taipei: 自然風shabu shabu 精品料理屋 (Zi Ran Feng)

This is a rather different shabu shabu as compared to the previous one that I had at xxxxxxxx. This is more expensive (though there are cheaper options then the one we had but generally the tagged price is higher).

We came with a mindset to indulge ourselves in good shabu shabu... we chose a set that consist of the following:

4 kind of appetizer which my favourite is the abalone!

Loved all the sashimi of course.
Well, Salmon, Magoru, Swordfish (I think) and a little prawn.

And this is the main highlight! We ordered the lobster with pork. So this is the entire platter for 2.

And a shitload of pork!

After you're done with all the lobsters and pork and clams and fish and basically everything else. They will take your broth, and cook it into some really delicious porridge that... I don't even know how to describe this. By the time we were eating this I was exploding but I still ate a bowlful anyway.

Definitely this over Match Ice Cream which was way too sweet.

This set we had for 2 goes from a drink, to appetizer, sashmi, mains, porridge and dessert. Total 4 lobsters with 8 parts. The lobster is super fresh and so is everything else served.

Of course, the price comes heavy. The set we had cost 5,200TWD.

There are single pots and more affordable sets for you to choose from. If you're in for indulgence.. try out this place :)
