Cafe: The Coffee Daily @ Serangoon Garden Estate

On the second attempt on trying to drop by Wimbly Lu for their waffles.. the queue was too terribly long that I decided not to join the queue and head over to somewhere really quiet and nearby. I did a little search and I found this place round the corner from Wimbly Lu. There was 2 cafes side by side on this stretch of shop houses.

The entire cafe was cozy, small and most importantly quiet. You hardly find any quiet cafes now. Most of the cafes are so busy that you can't even enjoy a sip of coffee in peace (well not that I am a avid coffee drinker but you get what I mean).

They don't have an extensive menu but for me it was good enough. They had set meals on all-day breakfast style, coffees/tea and desserts like waffles with ice creams and cakes. Unfortunate for me, there wasn't any rainbow cakes on sale that night when I dropped by. I googled a little and everyone's talking about the rainbow though. So if you make a trip there, perhaps you can try the rainbow cake.

I was quite full from lunch that day so we ordered a all-day breakfast to share and a waffle with a scoop of ice cream to share. I was actually there for waffles only so it fits my cravings.

Wanted to try the lava but... didnt.

Good cup of hot chocolate.

Not too bad waffles, nothing much to rave about but nothing to grumble about too.

This is pretty good. Kinda like the scramble egg and the portion is pretty decent.

We spent about $35 for everything you see here. I'd come back again for some peace and quiet time at night.

Cafe: Mad Nest @ East Coast Road

Madnest was one of the cafes that I noted as 'to-go' cafes but unfortunately, I wish I haven't gone there.

My initial purpose taking a trip all the way to East Coast was because I wanted to visit Penny University which was located a street ahead from Madnest. Well.. I was pretty unfortunate because when I was there... There wasn't any queue but the stove was spoilt. Yes, the stove was spoilt. Seriously, what are the odds of you arriving at the cafe and the cafe stove has to spoil. God, I need to shower some flower water. (if you know what I mean.)

While driving pass Penny University in search of parking lots, we chanced upon Madnest. Since we couldn't get any brunch from Penny University, we decided to give Madnest a go. (which I awfully regret not reading some reviews before going.)

The entire cafe was empty. Yes, e-m-p-t-y. (I should have picked up this alarming bell ringing at the back of my head.) Seriously, a Saturday afternoon.. a completely empty restaurant? Something has ought to be wrong.

Nonetheless... we went ahead. So the entire place looks pretty neat. I like the furnitures and the ambience. But of course the food was an absolute disappointment. I had poach eggs that tasted like boiled eggs, tasteless bacon and mediocre tasting salmon. The latte good looks but that's all about it. Nothing fantastic about it. I guess the only edible food that we were happy about was the truffle fries. Of course it was nothing awesome but comparing with the main dishes.. I guess that's the only good thing about that place.

Well, you should see this coming. Don't bother visiting Madnest. It's expensive and the food is terrible. I have no comments on the service because we were the only customers. If we're the only customers and I have comments, then this cafe should probably just close down.

I've pictures below taken for you to judge yourself whether if you agree or disagree with me. Of course, it's still your own preference if you would like to take a visit or not. But if you ask for me opinion? Don't bother, really.

Latte @ $5

Truffle fries @ $10

Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon @ $15

My salmon looks so dry. And yes, it's just, mediocre

Eggs Benedict with Streaky Bacon @ $12

Bacon doesn't even look delicious. :(

No oozing out goodness. I was so disappointed.

Poached eggs? LOL.

Cafe: Grub @ Bishan Park

It was a Sunday night when I took a trip to Grub located at Bishan Park. I've been to Bishan Park to dine at Canopy before. Grub is located at the other side, about 2-3 minutes drive downwards from the direction of Canopy. We found the nearest carpark we could in the park and took a short 5 minutes stroll over to Grub.

It was pretty crowded when we got there. We took our queue numbers and went to a nearby bench to wait for the call. While waiting for your turn, maybe you could decide what you want to eat in advance by looking at their online menu.

The entire restaurant was like, in-the-middle-of-nowhere. It's pretty breezy but we didn't get the al fresco seats. The entire interior was cozy and it felt like I was in someone's house because of the 'dry-kitchen' setting they had as counter tables. Though it was a little cramped because of space constraints but overall, it was okay. Definitely child friendly. There was this kid right behind me tapping my back at least 3 times and his mom didn't even know. (that's how closely seated we are. and no, I did not stare at the kid at all.)

Initially when the food were served, I thought it wouldn't be filling for me because it looks small. Well, I was wrong. By the time I finished my burger.. I barely had enough space for my fries! Though the burger looks small but man.. the portion of the pork steak was pretty generous.

We enjoyed the dinner and especially Joel, he loved the mentaiko fries. (if you want more sauce, it's $2)

For 4 of us we spent about $92 for 2 drinks, 2 sides and 4 mains.

//Thank you Joel!

For the hot weather recently.. It was really a good day for us.

Here's the 'backside' of Grub.

Here's the 'frontside' of Grub!

So they don't let you clog up the space but instead you key in your details and wait for their call!
Which I think it's pretty creative because... it's a park!
You can take a stroll or sit at some benches nearby rather then having to queue up and feed mosquitoes.

This was the view from our bench while we waited for our turn.

Ice Lemon Tea @ $3

Soup of the day was mushroom @ $8

Slow cooked pork belly @ $16
Well, I don't really like the mash potatoes because somehow.. there was a weird after taste.
But the pork belly was not bad. (I'm not a major pork belly fan)

Here's my awesome Pork Steak Burger @ $13

See what I mean by 'small portion'? Ya, but you'd be surprise I had a hard time trying to finish my fries!

And no pineapple for me. (removed thereafter this picture was taken and into Mike's mouth.)

Crispy fish burger that looks like a spaceship @ $14

The fish, was awesome. And I'm a fish lover! You ought to try this!

This is the mentaiko fries with seaweed and Joel totally dig this. This for $9.

Sorry for the bad angle but this is chicken thigh burger that has slight thai taste @ $12.
Which I don't really like it.

Beauty: Laneige Beauty Products Price List for Korea VS Singapore

Finally, I managed to get hold of all the prices and did up this post. Major thanks to Eileen, whom helped me with those Korean prices. (by snapping loads of pictures for me!)

Well... before I flew to Korea last year, I did a mad search online trying to find out the prices in won compared to SGD (without having to go to the stores to stand there and take down the prices) for all Laneige items. Why? Reason because I wanted to make sure that I prepared enough cash.. (yes I know I can use my card but... I still wanted to know how much cheaper it was!)

Going to the stores sometimes... I don't really like being 'followed' around etc. Sometimes I just prefer my own space to look around. I don't know about your preference but this is mine. So for those people who are like me, don't like to go to the stores just to see how much the items are... Here's an entry for you! And for those who would like to get friends/families or going Korea yourself, here's a little heads up on the prices you'd likely to be expecting.

Note that if you're getting from Duty Free stores, it'd be definitely cheaper then what you see here. These prices are taken from their Korean official website and plus from the boutique in Korea.

I hope it would be helpful for you!
