Cafe: Les Patisseries @ Toa Payoh Central

I have been told that this cafe in Toa Payoh serves really good dessert and here I am to check it out! I went with the intention of filling up my tummy so I ordered mains with a waffle instead of just its sweets.

Les Patisseries is nearby the Toa Payoh Library, in fact just beside it. Walking distance from the MRT, really convenient but the only bad point is the cafe is rather small, max about 20 seaters? And plus it's free seatings which means no reservations too.

I went on a Saturday, around 1pm, we're lucky to get seats cause it was 'full house'. Anyway menu is limited but it was good, for both the mains, the drinks plus the dessert we ordered.

And it was NETT PRICE! *secretly rejoicing*

Mocha $5.50

Green Tea Latte $7

A shot of my date and the entire cafe. We're already against the wall, so that's all small it is.

Smoked salmon with avocado $11.90

It is value for money and I would't mind eating it again.

Big Breakfast $13.90

Really nothing to complain about.

Salted Caramel Waffle $9.90

Light kind of waffle, even the waffle itself is salted caramel-ish. Definitely worth the price for the amount of 'side dishes' on the waffle. And plus it was good. Will recommend this if you're a fan of salted caramel!

Nothing to grumble about this cafe however nothing too wow. If you're nearby and craving for some desserts or mains, you could come by. If you're in search of a new place to try you could come too. But if you're traveling 2 hours just to get here, maybe not. For me it's good enough because I don't stay too far away and this is really near my workplace. Revisiting this shouldn't be too much hassle.

Cafe: Sinpopo Brand @ Joo Chiat

Heard of this place long time ago but never had the chance to go until it became a surprise and memorable night there - well not exactly because of the ambiance or the food but more like the occasion and the companion.

I had my first celebration for my #pepperminter25 this year with #upthere at Sinpopo, Joo Chiat. It wasn't told to me where I was going so I was totally surprised when we went there. Happy me settled down and looked through the menu - which to me isn't exactly super extensive but I think it's decent enough. There were 10 of us so we made reservations. Given a seat nearest to the washroom though. :/ But it's okay, it felt like a little corner for us.

Well, after the entire celebration, my friends told me that they want to get me some other cakes other then the ones from Awfully Chocolate but because Sinpopo was kind of inflexible and refuse to let us bring outside cakes, they could only make do with the tarts/cakes from Awfully Chocolate. (they could be more flexible though)

It replaced my used to be favourite EverythingWithFries (then) but now it's getting overpriced and the food isn't as good as it was before so I kinda stopped going, unless I have strong craving for their Nutella Tart - which is still awesome but so expensive!

A little glaring but I hope you can see it.

Very Berry Tea $7

I thought this was pretty nice spoon, for the baked salmon.

Sinpopo Teh Tari $5

Latte $7

C's coffee was sourish and we requested to change it because my personal coffee expert says the beans were burnt hence the sourish taste. Well, luckily they replaced else minus another 20 points from them. Hahahahaha.

Sambal Fishballs $6

Decent balls but not really worth the money but the sambal was good.

Ma Ling Luncheon $6

This 'sold out' to us like hot cakes. Everyone's eyeing on this! This is good snack, can have it with beer or something.

Baked Salmon $16

Yes, very small portion and tad too salty.

Pan Seared Beef Hor Fun $16

Conclusion, skip this. No good. Stick to wet hor fun okay?

Roasted potatoes $6

Har Jeong Kai Burger $16

This was the best, and personally I couldn't finish it too. Everyone agree this was good, and the rest was really meh.

Crispy Pork Belly $16

This was passable but might be too small portion for guys.

Chargrilled Pork $20

Well, just decent.

Cafe: Esette Cafe @ Duxton Road

Just a couple of weeks ago I stumbled upon this really quiet and cozy cafe when the initial cafe we wanted to go was closed. Situated right beside Group Therapy, you can find this attractive cafe - looks rather cozy from outside and that was what attractive me to take a look inside at their menu.

We had our mains just nearby before we went in search for dessert and a chill out place so we skipped the mains (actually they look pretty decent based on the menu, so perhaps I will go back there again to try) and tried out their waffle and cake with some coffee and tea.

I'm not a coffee person so I usually go for the slush or tea. So that night, I wanted something more relaxing, I had a berry-ish tea which smelt so fragrant that my cafe buddy for the night kept eyeing on my drink - but of course I refuse to share hahahahaha.

Since we're not having mains so we're seated comfortably at the sofa seats.

Red Velvet Cake $6.90

I must really say that this may look ordinary but it-was-awesome. I would go back for another red velvet, definitely. Moist, not too creamy and just right.

Waffle with Ice Cream $10.50

Looks ordinary too but it was quite crispy - but a little too tad crispy. G enjoyed it more then I did though, but it's not too bad. I would pass this.

It was really a good find, and I am glad that Group Therapy was closed that night - else I would never have found out this place. I liked how cozy the entire cafe felt and plus the service deserves praises. They do sell some gifts like tea cups/cups by the counter. I just briefly glanced while I was making payment so I didn't really look at the prices.

You probably will hear me going back again for their rainbow cake (which I didn't get to try because I chose the red velvet this time) and their brunch mains that looks decent.

Need a quiet place to chit-chat/chill? You've got to head over to Esette Cafe.

On a side note, I've been really neglecting my blog that the readership has dropped terribly :( I'm in my finals this semester and this January/February is just way-too-crazily-packed. Sighpie and I'm due to fly 6 days from now. Oh, I'm heading to Korea but on tour this time round so... Good news is I don't have to be stressed up over it, bad news it I don't get my freedom and no more subway jingles for me to hear. :(

I have like tons of drafts in my blog and I just really-can't-find-any-more-time. My finals preparation just for the classes itself is draining every ounce of my cells out. I'm so exhausted everyday after work then coming home to do my notes before trying to hit the bed by midnight everyday just so I have enough rest.

I decided to choose the shortest post I can make do to do a short update on this quiet place. Don't abandon me okay? I'd be back as soon as.. I'm done with my case notes preparations.

Till then folks! Probably the next post would be.. Either when I'm too bored on the 7 hours flight over to Korea, or when I'm at Jeju Island with nothing better to do. Then again, I would be rushing my assignments while I'm on my trip too. F-M-L.

Ciao, good nights everyone.

xoxo
